The foundation would almost certainly be a heavily evolved version of the VR30DDTT — the 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged DOHC V6 that currently powers the Z NISMO at 420 horsepower and the Infiniti Q50/Q60 Red Sport. In those applications, it’s proven, potent, and highly tunable. In a purpose-built GT-R Skyline application, Nissan’s engineers would have room to breathe.
Our prediction: a bespoke GT-R specification VR30DDTT with upgraded twin-scroll turbochargers, revised fuel injection mapping, a higher-flow intercooler, and Takumi-built assembly — the same hand-crafting philosophy applied to R35 GT-R engines. The VR30DDTT’s characteristic mid-range surge, the electric motors’ instant-fill torque, the ATTESA-evolved AWD system that knows exactly where every Newton-meter needs to go — this is a car built from proven components, assembled into something completely new.
It would also make extraordinary sense for a global market Nissan is aggressively targeting with electrification. The PHEV architecture offers 40–50 miles of electric-only city range — enough for most daily commuters to never burn fuel — while the twin-turbo V6 generator ensures zero range anxiety on weekend mountain drives. It is both a responsible product for 2026 regulations and an unapologetically thrilling machine.
Reports suggest an Infiniti-badged version — potentially Q60 or a new nameplate — could arrive in US showrooms since the Skyline sedan itself may remain JDM-exclusive initially. Either way, the soul would be identical: a twin-turbocharged, electrified, driver’s car that carries sixty years of Skyline heritage into the hybrid era with its head held high.
